How can a good God allow suffering?

Someone recently asked the question of how a God who is all-powerful and good allow suffering in this world?

It is true that God is omnibenevolent and omnipresent. But we must define exactly what it means to be omnibenevolent. Let’s let the Bible define this for us.

Unfortunately, many people have a faulty understanding of who God is. Most Americans tend to think that God is only loving, good, and that he wouldn’t punish anything that is wrong. Let me give an example to help you to understand this.

Let’s take, for example, Osama bin Laden. Do you think that God would be loving & good to not allow ANY suffering or pain to happen to him because he helped plot the 9-11 attacks? Do you think that God should let Osama get into heaven, or do you think he should be deserving of hell? What about Adolf Hitler, who killed 6 million Jews? Should God not punish what he did? What about if someone robbed your house and stole everything you had…do you think that that person should go unpunished?   If there is no suffering in the world, then this would be what God would be like!

Also, we must understand that the God of the Bible is a lot different than what many people think he is. The Bible declares that God is not only good and loving, but also PERFECT. He cannot do anything wrong. That means that it would simply be contradict his nature to not allow suffering in this world to punish rebellion against His laws. I believe that suffering is actually one piece of evidence FOR the existence of God, not against it.
